Join The Roosevelt for Annual Stormin’ of the Sazerac Event, Sept. 28!

Posted on: September 25th, 2012 by admin

The Roosevelt New Orleans will pay tribute to its remarkable and colorful past through the re-creation of the historic “Stormin’ of the Sazerac” Friday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. in the hotel’s legendary Sazerac Bar.

The event commemorates the 63rd anniversary of the first occasion when women, normally admitted only on Mardi Gras, began to receive equal status year-round with men at the world-famous bar. There they could join their male counterparts anytime for the Sazerac cocktail made popular by the bar, the Ramos Gin Fizz that was the favorite of Gov. Huey P. Long and other concoctions.

To properly honor the original “Stormin’,” which took place in 1949, guests are encouraged to wear late-1940s attire.

Prior to the event, however, women will get a special treat, as the world-famous Blue Room offers a three-course, ladies-only lunch, featuring entertainment by The Nawlins’ Ramblers, beginning at 1 p.m. for just $29 (plus tax and gratuity).

The ladies lunch will also feature a fashion show with vintage runway looks by Retroactive, a display of vintage hats from Les Dame Chapeaux and lip makeovers courtesy of The Guerlain Spa. Guests will have their choice of four specialty cocktails, including “There’s no place like Holmes,” “Discover Krauss,” “Godchaux’s Glamour” and the “Maison Blanche Fizz.”

Luncheon guests can take part in a “vintage glamour” costume contest with local celebrity judges. The winner will receive a one-night stay at The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Complimentary valet parking is available for those who dine in the Blue Room. Reservations for the ladies-only lunch can be made by calling (504) 335-3138.
